Eloise Bridgerton Is a Mood

She’s a cool new shaper of Feminism

I’m starting to theorize that Eloise Bridgerton hasn’t read any fairytale love story that I never heard of her fantasizing about her happy ending with her ideal man. She does not regularly observe propriety as other ladies do. She is not perfectly prim, but she must be commended.

When women are supposed to be domestically practical and to behave in a ladylike manner, Eloise on the contrary wants divergence.

Eloise is one of the most admirable characters in Bridgerton considering that her roles portioned for her family, best friend, and the Ton’s fashionable society makes the best of her. She might be rebellious but I find her actions reasonable. She speaks sensibly and she acts for a cause, she is underrated but she is a diamond.

You could not enjoy Bridgerton without Eloise. Perhaps you would not yet agree, but let me share with you why Eloise is the most appealing character in Bridgerton, whichever season it is.

Why should you watch Bridgerton because of her? Why is Eloise the best?

Eloise is an outspoken feminist

I like her being vocal about standing against stereotypes. While other debutantes work hard to find an eligible husband by smiling and moving gracefully, wearing extravagant gowns and bonnets, and swooning when bad news happens, Eloise on the other hand will complain about why she had to conform to all these absurdities. She believes that women can be more than just their genteel manners. Eloise does not want to live miserably by living up to the expectations of her society just like other ladies her age being prepared for a marriage market. She also dares to turn guys down in dance and make them realize their audacity because they think so highly of themselves.

Eloise believes in the capabilities of a woman; thus, she has these radical thoughts in her mind as manifested in her actions. I see her as a strong independent woman every one of us should develop ourselves to become.

Eloise is a good best friend

Eloise’s friendship with Penelope is one of the enjoyable parts of the series. Each of them supports one another in their endeavors, but they never forget to remind the consequences of their actions.

I can say that Eloise is a genuine friend because she never let Penelope down. Eloise always chose Penelope despite that she was invited by another circle of friends. Eloise and Penelope might have put themselves in trouble that led to their friendship’s break up, but they both did what they had to do not only for themselves but for the people they love for life. Both of them had mistakes, and friendship might be imperfect, but they make the story more enticing.

Eloise can keep haughty girls away

Mean girls like Lady Cressida Cowper have no stand against Eloise the Greatest. I loved the scene in Bridgerton (Season 2) where Eloise was invited to join a particular her circle instead of staying with insipid wallflowers like her best friend, Penelope. Eloise candidly declined to say,

I think it’s enough answer to shoo girls who look at their fellow ladies as beneath them.

(Nice one, Eloise!)

Eloise knows what she wants

Eloise craves freedom. Eloise is determined to become who and what she wanted to become. As a critic of her society’s customs especially on women’s limited rights, she is unafraid to bring up her dream of a different fate in her life. She believes she does not need to end up with the same destiny every debutante in the Regency era should be. She’s all pleasured of becoming a spinster (an unmarried woman) that’s why she takes neither effort of dressing as perfect wife material for any man nor of entering the marriage mart. It’s all because she knows her worth as a woman.

Eloise is brave

The fact that Eloise braved her coming out into society was one of the superb qualities she has in her character. She has also set herself up to track down Lady Whistledown as driven by her curiosity and admiration for the gossipmonger. She knew there would be consequences for her actions and ideas, but as foretold, she does not do things without a cause. Eloise trusts any mission she plots and she is decisive.

Eloise is brilliantly sarcastic

Her funny and witty moments in Bridgerton lighten up some serious scenes. She tends to be direct and clever when she has to terminate a conversation with people she has no interest to talk with. Personally, her frankness as shown in her behavior, gestures, and facial expressions, sums up the story’s humor.

Eloise is a genius

She logically tries to discover stuff she’s curious about, such as her attempt of uncovering Lady Whistledown’s identity. She observes and listens to gossip, merges what she knows with the topic at hand based on her investigations, and wraps up her conclusion. She is an amateur unlicensed detective but she has the skills.

Eloise is true to herself

She does not pretend to be anyone else. She does not compare herself with other girls. She is the person who acts the usual advice about “just be yourself.” She doesn’t care if she turns off men, she’s actually grateful if they did. She does not waste her time and energy on pleasing everybody in her society. She cannot dance gracefully, she hates being visited by a man who might court her, and she does not like any man’s attention. She’s comfortable behaving the way she is.

Eloise is simple but she stands out among the Regency ladies. She is endearing ever since the series’ first season because of her funny and adventurous character. She is a kind of a lady who cannot be easily swayed by anyone. She is clever and she is proud to voice out her feminist ideas because she is more confident with a woman’s capabilities than what men can do. Her distaste for her society has always been justified and it makes her more inspiring, especially to women who need to discover their potential to become self-reliant.

There are more reasons why Eloise shines the best. I think you should start watching Bridgerton if you haven’t yet. It’s a very good series and it’s one of my favorites that’s why I wrote a blog post like this.
